Artist on a Mission

Since opening Modern Local Art Gallery in Mars Hill, NC in 2022, owner Beth Boone (pictured fabulously above) has developed a passion for helping local artists and their Western North Carolina communities work together in ways that benefit both.

Out of that heart-centered aim, Beth founded ARTSOUP, a registered North Carolina nonprofit, to encourage this dynamic partnership. The space has become particularly important as a community service and coordination center since the devastation of Hurricane Helene.

To that end, ARTSOUP offers workshops and events to celebrate all the arts and develop a deeper, warmer sense of community.

Beth believes—and ARTSOUP demonstrates—that whole-hearted participation in creative activities inspires our daily lives and makes us better humans, both for ourselves and our towns.

“I believe artistic talent is comprised of 1% ability and 99% desire to explore means and methods for expressing oneself creatively, which manifests in what we call art when we are attuned to that which transcends the physical. The simple act of placing one object close to another creates a situation involving light, color, form and composition. Whether creating or appreciating the result of this element of the Divine moving through us, every member of society makes a unique imprint on our zeitgeist when they experience it.”
